Friday 7th June 2024 @ 2pm to 5pm at St Mary's Church, Bucklebury Village

We have volunteered to help decorate the Church as part of the “Best of Bucklebury” celebrations. We have been allocated the central Font. I viewed the challenge this morning, and was surprised to discover that its dimension was less than my imagination, but it will still require a joint effort from the Society.

I will be away at the D-Day 80th anniversaries on the beaches in France, but will be back on Friday 7th to co-ordinate our effort. The wooden top of the font is only two feet in diameter and can be reversed to provide a flat surface. I have a plan which reflects our gardening activities, using our resources and no Oasis. A photo is attached to show the mechanics floating in my head, but will no doubt be improved on the day with our member’s flowers and foliage.

WE require about six buckets of fresh foliage and flowers (“builders” size or 10kg plastic containers) ranging from 1ft to 2ft 6in tall, probably more foliage than flowers, plus some moss, interesting leaves and ivy to furnish the edges and trail down the font. The plant material should be picked from your garden, or stolen from your neighbour’s, on Wednesday, and left to condition in the bucket full of water. Bring it with you on Friday 7th June, at 2pm, and we will see what evolves.

Phone me (0118 9712587) to confirm if you are able to help, so I know the strength of our team, and can give more information if required. Thank you Derek Matthews.
